It’s one of those “I’m a little bit country, he’s a little bit rock & roll” situations…except switch out country for charmingly off-beat and rock & roll for high-octane explosive ass-whooping and you’ve got a recipe for movie night at my apartment. Read More-->

    by Briana Campbell (@MsMatchGirl)

In a former life, for many years, I was a retail sales girl.

It’s a career that relies heavily on relationships. Relationships with clients. Relationships with vendors. Relationships with the other members of the sales team. It’s about product knowledge and trust. It’s about knowing who your customer is and relating to them in a personal way.

And it’s a different game now that it ever was before. Read More--> now that it ever was before.

    By Kimberly Reyes (@CommDuCoeur)

Northern California’s Silicon Valley is the beating heart of our industry.  Ever since Stanford University planted its high-tech seeds in the San Francisco Bay area at the beginning of the last century, we saw a fast and furious growth in technological innovation that forever changed the way we live.

And while innovation has since spread its roots to other parts of the country and even the world, the spirit of Silicon Valley carries on, with the passion and ambition that only comes from dedicated computer nerds and friends with deep pockets.  Here are our top five Silicon Valley ones to watch. 4. Two “I” Words for the iPad: Imperfect, Yet Ingenious

iPad 002 Two I Words for the iPad: Imperfect, Yet Ingenious

    By Kimberly Reyes (@CommDuCoeur)

Let’s pretend you’re an alien from outer space and tomorrow is your first day visiting earth.

And you’ve got your entrance music and your “I come in peace” speech ready.

You park your ship and lower the bridge–you’re anxious, but ready to take that one small step for aliens.

…And are soon disappointed to learn that frankly, no one gives a damn.

Before you get down on yourself, you probably should know that tomorrow is truly the worst day for an extraterrestrial landing.  Tomorrow, friend, is iPad day. Read More--> now that it ever was before.

  5. What We Can Learn From GOOGLED

Googled 196x300 What We Can Learn From GOOGLED

    By Sven Larsen (@zemoga)

What happens when you take a bunch of engineers, put them in charge of the company and don’t give them any business guidance except “Question everything”? Nine times out of ten, you get anarchy. The tenth time you get Google, the company that has defined digital (and mainstream) culture for the past decade and quite possibly the most successful startup of all time.

Ken Auletta, the NEW YORKER’s masterful media columnist tries to decipher the magic formula that built this digital phenomenon in his new book GOOGLED. It’s a comprehensive and in-depth look at a company that’s barely a decade old. Auletta was given complete insider access to the company and all it’s principals and the result is a multi-faceted profile of the search giant. Read More-->.

Mr. Jobs might make some people angry. Very, very angry. During a demo with Wall Street Journal he said “We don’t spend a lot of energy on old technology”. Now that is out of context I’m sure but there has been a lot of buzz around the lack of Flash support on the iPad. This is compiled by the difficulties in the past with Adobe & Apple on flash in the iPhone OS as well as long running speed issues on Mac OSX. But the real question is where will Flash wind up. I have a theory on that. Let me blow your mobile mind.

  8. Style Over Substance

The other night I had a rare night out with the wife without our 4 year old. My wife choose to see the movie LEGION. She choose this because of the posters of a cool looking angel, played by Paul Bettany (whom she has a slight to severe crush on). I will admit that the posters are cool, with great angles, composition and color. I was also struck by the fact that the film's plot seemed to be similar to a movie from my teen years, The Prophecy (starring Christopher Walken). But never-the-less it was what we were seeing. 10. Why is Flickr Saying “Me Too… Me Too!”

me too Why is Flickr Saying Me Too... Me Too!

We are constantly updating everything we use (I update something almost everyday). But why are so many developers and companies handling new features in such a Me Too fashion? What is the best path? Is it the clear ground breaker that waits for a totally new never-been-done feature to release? Or is it the Me Too approach, so that slowly but surely we will have thousand of sites or online apps that are all exactly the same? Read More-->
