1. JD Answers Your Questions

Twitter user @mjhardin posed the following question via our Twitter feed: What are the biggest online trends you see happening that marketers should be paying attention to?

We took it to JD, one of the user interface directors in Zemoga’s Bogota office.

What do you think of his answer (and his great looking flow chart?))

  2. When Social Media Goes to Work

Productivity photo When Social Media Goes to Work

    By Sven Larsen (@zemoga)

Does your boss think social media is equivalent to time wasting? That used to be the attitude of a lot of big companies. Corporations would block popular sites like MySpace and Facebook, assuming that their employees were using these cutting edge connectivity tools to play Mafia Wars or share photos with their friends.

But in the last year or so, we’ve seen a change in that kind of thinking. Maybe it’s the seemingly unstoppable wave of Facebook expansion. Or maybe it’s the fact that many of these naysayers are now using social media themselves. But the view of social media in the executive audience has been transformed from “distracting nuisance” to “productivity tool”. Read More-->)

  3. Shaping the Future of the Music Industry

1472516 Shaping the Future of the Music Industry

This post kicks off Zemoga’s week-long guide to helping industry giants go digital.  We’ll be looking at case studies of who’s done it right, as well as provide guidance for those who are struggling with the transition.

The Ashley playlist.  The Stephanie playlist.  The Katie playlist.  The Jason playlist.  If you’ve ever seen my iPod, you’ll find these and a whole host of characters, each marking a significant event or memory, each as vivid and accurate as any video or picture of their namesake.

For me, a playlist isn’t just a list of songs I like.  They’re mixtapes I’ve made for friends, songs that blared from at epic college parties, tools to help me focus and concentrate, setlists from memorable concerts.  I have about eighty of them, dating back as far as middle school. I would labor over them for hours, sometimes days.  I needed to create the right mood, the transitions needed to be perfect, the songs needed to be timeless and brimming with meaning. Read More-->)

  5. The Art of Data Visualizations

Briana Campbell is the newest addition to the Zemoga team, and she’s giving us an artist’s perspective on the importance of data visualizations.

    By Briana Campbell (@MsMatchGirl)

OK.  So infographics are everywhere.  Road signs, weather maps, statistical data, subway maps – infographics is a suddenly trendy term for something that’s been around forever. (Literally, forever – the first infographics are easily prehistoric petroglyphs and cave paintings).  Human beings are visual creatures, able to quickly take in a lot of data at a glance.  With everyone constantly on the go, with the 24-hour news cycle and a constant barrage of information, using media from newspapers to televisions to laptops and iPhones, infographics is the most surefire way to convey a message. 6. My iPad Adventure

     My iPad Adventure

    By Elad Ziv (@elad_ziv)

This weekend I had the task of making sure to grab one of Mr. Job’s “Game-Changing” devices for the boss man, Mr., Edgerton, @wiltonbound.  All week I was toying with the idea of whether or not I needed to sit outside the Apple store on Friday night in order to have a shot at grabbing this iPad Saturday morning.  On top of this, I needed to choose from Apple’s four different retail stores in Manhattan.  The 5th Avenue store (one of the top 10 tourist destinations in NYC) seemed to be a little bit of a challenge so we decided that I would go to the West 14th Store in Manhattan’s Meatpacking district.  After much research on the iPad’s and a little bit of investigation I decided to go to the store at 4 a.m. and pray that I would not find a line of hundreds of Apple fanatics who were there hours before me. 8. When Was the Last Time You Clicked On a Banner Ad?

When Was the Last Time You Clicked On a Banner Ad?

    By DJ Edgerton (@wiltonbound)

Is it still 1995? You might think so when you read the mainstream’ press coverage of the evolving state of advertising and media. Yes magazine display advertising and newspaper classified advertising are in serious decline. But a lot of the focus of the coverage surrounding this phenomenon has been focussed on media content and how it is being subverted by the internet. “Why buy the New York Times if you can read it online for free?” is a refrain repeated in numerous stories. Digital is seen as the solution to every marketer’s problem. If only it were that easy.

While how we interact with content across various platforms is a big story, I think that (at least part of) the big picture is being missed here. Read More-->.

  9. The iPad vs. the Kindle – Can’t We All Just Get Along?

Reader graphic The iPad vs. the Kindle Cant We All Just Get Along?

    By DJ Edgerton (@wiltonbound)

With April 3rd rapidly approaching, the buzz throughout the publishing industry is all about the iPad and more specifically the iBooks store that launches with the device. Many are talking about the iPad being a “Kindle killer” since it offers so much more functionality than Amazon’s popular device.  And Apple is definitely using its position as a viable competitor to make life more difficult for Amazon. Jeff Bezos’ team have already had major showdowns on pricing with Macmillan and it looks like there will be more such confrontations with the other members of the “founding five” (the publishers who have signed up as the initial product providers for the iBooks store). 10. 7 Websites We Wish We Built

Think Space2 7 Websites We Wish We Built

    By Kimberly Reyes (@CommDuCoeur)

The objective of the above site is centered around a single question: “Where do you get your ideas?”

The Economist’s Thinking Space is a 3D construction representing the diverse sources of inspiration from the lives of the magazine’s European audience.

Last week, we talked about innovation.  We learned about its definition and its processes, and even took a look at how Zemoga’s Innovation lab operates.  This week, we’re going to delve into our Digital Foundry for a close look at digital production – how we design great user experiences around great brands.

Just like The Economist’s readers, we’d like to share some of our sources of inspiration.  Here are seven creative sites we admire for their ability to encourage strong interaction and engagement by offering something unique to the user. Read More-->.
