  3. Flashy Talk

Mr. Jobs might make some people angry. Very, very angry. During a demo with Wall Street Journal he said “We don’t spend a lot of energy on old technology”. Now that is out of context I’m sure but there has been a lot of buzz around the lack of Flash support on the iPad. This is compiled by the difficulties in the past with Adobe & Apple on flash in the iPhone OS as well as long running speed issues on Mac OSX. But the real question is where will Flash wind up. I have a theory on that. Let me blow your mobile mind.

  4. How to Handle Guy Kawasaki (and Why Aggregation is the New Black)

Funnel How to Handle Guy Kawasaki (and Why Aggregation is the New Black)

    By DJ Edgerton (@wiltonbound)

We talked yesterday about hyper-communicators and we mentioned Guy Kawasaki as an example of this new breed of media personality. Unlike some of his contemporaries, Guy (somewhat controversially) uses ghostwriters for a lot of his tweets. I personally don’t think there’s anything wrong with that but one of the byproducts of this approach is Guy and his team produce a lot of tweets each day. After a while, they can feel like the digital version of Cliff Clavin from Cheers.

Of course, Guy is not alone. There are numerous uber-tweeters sharing their pearls of wisdom on a daily basis. And there are also lots of spammers out there. After a while, even using a tool like Tweetdeck to manage your Twitter consumption can become an arduous task.

Organizing the information you want into a manageable data flow isn’t just a challenge restricted to Twitter either. Popular blogs like Techcrunch and Mashable post literally hundreds of items each week. Sure, you can view these with an RSS reader but after a while the temptation to just hit that “Mark All As Read” button becomes overwhelming. Read More-->

Hyper communicator Why You Dont Need to Be Chris Brogan

Remember that Brian Solis infographic we showed you last week? The one with the seemingly endless number of communications platforms? Was I the only one who found that a bit intimidating?

As web strategists and digital innovators, it’s our responsibility to stay on top of the latest emerging technologies Read More-->!

  6. How Do You Brainstorm New Ideas?

    Brainstorming Image

    By Sven Larsen (@zemoga)

British developers theMobileHealthCrowd have created a wonderful resource, simply called “101 things to do with a mobile phone in healthcare“. Explaining what it is would be pretty redundant, with a title like that. But it’s a great resource.

And it made me think – about brainstorming. Looking at this list is a great way to spark an idea. And it was probably created in the first place by means of a great brainstorming session. Read More--> great brainstorming session.

  7. What The Conversation Looks Like

     What The Conversation Looks Like

    By Dan Licht (@thedvl)

We live in an age of multi-multimedia and our final data visualization of the week does a good job of illustrating this. Brian Solis‘ Conversation infographic highlights the multiple digital platforms that can be used to communicate with the modern consumer.

Wouldn’t you stand up and take notice if you saw something like this in your next Powerpoint deck?

How many of these services are you using? And how are you conveying that to your employees and customers??

     What Does Facebook Look Like?

Can you ever get enough great infographics? We don’t think so. Continuing our data visualization themed week, here’s a great visualization of the 6 year history of Facebook from our friends at Mashable (designed by the incomparable Muhammad Saleem).

Don’t you wish they taught history this way when you were in grade school??

  9. Where Do You Live in the United States of Facebook?

Finalmap copy Where Do You Live in the United States of Facebook?

    By Sven Larsen (@zemoga)

What can data analysis and visualization tell us about ourselves?

This fascinating graphic from Pete Warden shows how cities and topics are related on Facebook. It’s a thoroughly modern take on the classic NINE NATIONS OF NORTH AMERICA.

You can read Pete’s full analysis of the data here.  It’s a terrific look at how we behave online and also a terrific illustration of the wealth of information that’s available on the Internet.

How are you taking advantage of all the data that’s out there? And how are you using it to create compelling content??

  10. What Does the Internet Look Like?

By Sven Larsen (@zemoga) We’ve mentioned before how much we love data visualization. And it seems like we’re not alone. The chart above was created by Focus Research and is meant to display the stte of the Internet in one easy to view graphic.

It’s an ambitious project and we think they’ve done a very good job with it. As generations grow up with a marriage of visuals and text and data becomes ever more complex (and available), being able to present information clearly will become an essential marketing skill.

Do you deal with large amounts of data in your business? How can you make it easier for your customers to understand the information you’re providing them? Read More-->?
